Promoting early detection, preventive healthcare, and healthier communities in Nagaland

Oting Village, Mon District | 6 October 2026

Medezer Foundation Trust, in collaboration with the Oting Village Council and the local Church, organised a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Awareness and Screening Camp in Oting village, Mon District, on 6 October 2026. The initiative aimed to strengthen community awareness of hypertension and diabetes, promote early detection, and encourage healthier lifestyle practices among community members.

Non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are growing public health concerns, particularly in communities where access to regular health screening and preventive healthcare may be limited. Through this initiative, Medezer Foundation Trust sought to bring essential screening services and health education closer to the community, emphasising the importance of timely medical consultation and regular health monitoring.

Free Health Screening and Medical Consultation

The camp provided free blood pressure (BP) and random blood sugar (RBS) screening to participants, along with individual consultations with healthcare professionals to help them understand their screening results and the importance of appropriate follow-up care.

The programme also included health education sessions covering diabetes prevention and management, balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, tobacco and alcohol avoidance, and the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight. Participants were educated about hypertension, its risk factors and potential complications, including stroke, as well as the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and timely medical intervention.

Special emphasis was placed on encouraging older adults, particularly those aged 60 years and above, and other high-risk individuals to undergo regular health check-ups.

Screening Results: Key Findings

The camp screened a total of 49 individuals, revealing several elevated screening results that highlight the need for continued awareness, medical evaluation, and follow-up within the community.

  • 49 individuals screened: Community members received free blood pressure and random blood sugar checks.
  • 13 participants recorded elevated blood pressure: These findings underline the importance of regular hypertension screening and appropriate medical assessment.
  • 4 participants recorded elevated random blood sugar levels: Further evaluation was recommended to determine whether diabetes or another blood sugar disorder was present.

The programme also strengthened collaboration between Medezer Foundation Trust, the Village Council, and the local Church, demonstrating how community institutions can work together to improve health awareness and encourage early intervention.
